Sports facts Shortstitle patterns that are working

The same ranking as the niche page above, grouped by the shape of the title rather than by the video. Each group shows how many of today’s ranked Shorts use it and what the median velocity of that group is.

Updated Thursday, 17 September 2026 · ranked from the 24 Shorts YouTube returned for this query.

Ranked by views per day since publish, not by total views — a three-year-old video with a million views has taught nobody anything about this month. These are title shapes, not hooks: the API gives us no transcripts, so we cannot read a spoken opening line and will not pretend to.

Plain statement

14 of 24 ranked · 65.5K median views/day

No mechanic at all — the subject stated flatly. It works when the subject itself is the surprise, and does nothing when it is not.

Question

5 of 24 ranked · 62.2K median views/day

A question the viewer answers in their head before they have decided to watch. The brain treats an open question as an open loop and stays to close it.

Number-led

3 of 24 ranked · 182.6K median views/day

A count tells the viewer how long this will take and how many payoffs are coming. It is the cheapest way to make a video feel finite.

YouTube Title Generator

Ten titles for one video, all under the length YouTube actually shows on a phone.

Video Hook Generator

Ten opening lines, each built on a different mechanic — the spoken half these titles cannot tell you about.

Questions

Are these hooks?

No, and the distinction matters. A hook is the spoken opening line of a video; the YouTube Data API gives us no transcripts, so we cannot read one. These are title shapes, counted from the titles of videos that are currently moving. Anybody selling you 'real viral hooks' derived from this data is describing something they do not have.

How is a title assigned to a shape?

In order, first match wins: a question mark makes it a question, then a leading number, then first person, then a negation, then POV or second person, and anything left is a plain statement. Each video is counted once, which is why the group counts add up to the number of videos ranked.

Why median rather than average views per day?

Because one runaway video would otherwise define a shape. A median tells you what a typical video with that title shape is doing, which is the thing you are actually deciding against.

Does a popular shape mean I should use it?

Not on its own. A shape that dominates a niche is also the shape every competing video is using, and a title's job is partly to be different from the ones either side of it in the feed. Read the counts as a description of the niche, not as instructions.

Does this page cost extra quota?

No. It reads the same cached search result as the niche page above it and re-sorts it, so opening this page never triggers another YouTube search.

A title is half of it. The other half is the first line.
