Brazilian first, and what that means
Portuguese in Veedio means Brazilian Portuguese, the variety spoken by the large majority of Portuguese speakers. Narration, rhythm and the script writer's vocabulary all follow Brazil. For viewers in Portugal, Angola or Mozambique, the video is perfectly understandable, but it will sound Brazilian.
If you need European Portuguese, write the script yourself in Portugal's grammar and words (estou a fazer, telemóvel, ecrã) and preview every scene: the voice will read your words, but its delivery is not tuned for Portugal. For most social content, picking one audience and writing for it is better than trying to sit between the two.
Brazilian social video is conversational. Contractions people actually say, such as pra and tá, are normal in a casual Short, and the voice reads them as written. Keep fuller forms (para, está) for stories and explainers.
Brazil or Portugal: words that give it away
| English | Brazil | Portugal |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile phone | celular | telemóvel |
| Bus | ônibus | autocarro |
| Train | trem | comboio |
| Screen | tela | ecrã |
| Breakfast | café da manhã | pequeno-almoço |
| I am doing it | estou fazendo | estou a fazer |
Writing Portuguese for a voice
- Use você for the viewer. Tu is common in parts of the South and Northeast, often with você verb forms, but você is the safe national default for narration.
- A gente ("we", informal) is everywhere in spoken Brazilian Portuguese and sounds friendlier than nós in a casual Short.
- Write every accent: é and e, avó and avô, pôr and por are different words, and the voice stresses them differently. The til in ã and õ and the cedilha in ç matter too.
- Write numbers as words when they are part of the sentence ("duas colheres"), so narration and captions agree.
- Regional slang (bora, mano, uai, bah) adds flavour but tells viewers where you are from. Use it on purpose or not at all.
- All voices speak Portuguese. Try the first line in Liam or Jessica for an upbeat Short and in George or Elli for a story, and keep what sounds natural.

English translation and notes
1. A party without brigadeiro isn't a party. Shall we make some? 2. In a saucepan, put one can of condensed milk, one spoon of butter and two spoons of chocolate powder. 3. Stir without stopping, on low heat, until the mixture comes away from the bottom of the pan. 4. Let it cool, butter your hands and roll little balls. Then just roll them in sprinkles. 5. Done: traditional brigadeiro! So, do you like it with sprinkles or without? Comment below!
The register is deliberately casual: bora, é só, comenta aí. Quantities are written as words so the voice and the captions match. The closing question is one every Brazilian has an opinion on, which is what gets people to comment.
Your first Portuguese video
- 1
Choose Portuguese (Brazil)
Set the language before generating. Type the idea in Portuguese or English; the script comes back in Brazilian Portuguese.
- 2
Set the tone in the idea
Add "tom descontraído" (relaxed tone) for a casual Short or "linguagem simples para crianças" for kids, so the script writer picks the right register.
- 3
Proofread accents and register
Check every accent mark, and that você and a gente are used consistently. Replace any slang that doesn't fit your audience.
- 4
Choose voice, style and captions
Documentary for food and places, 3D render or Watercolor for kids, Cinematic for drama. Pop or Bold captions for social Shorts.
- 5
Publish to Reels, TikTok and Shorts
Publish from the app to all three, or schedule with Auto-Mode. Write the caption and hashtags in Portuguese.
- 6
Share where Brazil watches
Export the same 9:16 file for WhatsApp Status and for Kwai, which also has a large audience in Brazil.

FAQ
Questions people ask next
Dá para fazer vídeo com IA em português de graça?
With a Veedio account and no card, you can make a 4-second watermarked preview of your idea; it cannot be downloaded. Full Portuguese videos need a paid plan, from Starter at $19/mo, with a 7-day money-back guarantee on the first payment.
Does Veedio support European Portuguese?
The Portuguese setting is Brazilian. You can write a script in European Portuguese and the voice will read your words, but the delivery is not tuned for Portugal, so preview it with a Portuguese listener before publishing.
Can I translate an English video into Portuguese?
Make it again with the language set to Portuguese (Brazil). The script writer writes it in Portuguese rather than translating line by line, which usually sounds more natural. Review it before generating.
Which voice sounds best in Brazilian Portuguese?
Every voice speaks it; choose by tone. Liam or Jessica for upbeat social clips, George or Elli for stories, Daniel or Matilda for explainers. Preview one line in two voices.
Can I use my own voice for Portuguese videos?
Yes. On Pro and Studio you can clone your own voice and narrate in it. You cannot clone other people's voices.
Should captions use pra or para?
Captions show exactly what the voice says, so write the form you want heard. Pra and tá suit casual Shorts; para and está suit stories, explainers and kids' content.
