How to make AI videos in Tamil, with Tamil narration and captions

To make an AI video in Tamil, set the video language to Tamil, write or generate the script in Tamil script, and decide early between spoken Tamil (பேச்சுத் தமிழ்) for casual Shorts and lightly formal written Tamil for stories and explainers, because the voice reads exactly what you write. Pick a voice by mood, keep captions in Tamil script, and title in both Tamil and Tanglish so both kinds of search find it.

  • Tamil is one of 29 narration and caption languages in Veedio.
  • Every one of the 20 catalog voices can narrate Tamil.
  • Captions follow the narration word by word, in Tamil script when the script is in Tamil.
  • A five-scene Short with stills costs 13 credits; with AI motion, 68.
  • Telugu is not supported; Hindi and Tamil are the two Indian languages in the catalog.

The one decision that matters most in Tamil

Tamil is written one way and spoken another. A news reader says "இருக்கிறது"; everyone else says "இருக்கு". Both are correct, but they sound like different worlds, and an AI voice will read whichever one you wrote, faithfully.

So choose the register before anything else. Recipe Shorts, comedy, vlogs and tips sound natural in spoken Tamil. Kids' moral stories, history and explainers usually use a softened written Tamil: formal grammar, everyday words. Mixing the two in one script is what makes Tamil narration sound odd, more than any voice choice.

If you let the script writer draft it, say which you want in the idea itself, for example "in casual spoken Tamil" or "in simple formal Tamil for children", then read the result before generating.

English translation and why it is written this way

1. Need to get a lunch box ready fast? Today: lemon rice. 2. Pour oil into the kadai and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add urad dal, chana dal and peanuts. 3. Curry leaves, green chillies, a pinch of turmeric. Then switch off the stove. 4. Now the rice, salt, and last the lemon juice. Juice only after the stove is off, or it turns bitter. 5. Lemon rice is ready! What would you add to it? Tell us in the comments.

Every verb is in spoken form (ஊத்தி, வெடிச்சதும், அணைச்சிடுங்க), with the respectful "-ங்க" ending, which is how a friendly cook talks to viewers. Written-Tamil versions of the same lines would be correct but would sound like a textbook. There are no quantities in the narration on purpose; put them in the description, where people can copy them.

Tamil voice and caption tips

  • Choose voices by mood: Matilda or Alice for explainers and recipes, George or Elli for stories, Jessica for children, Adam for history. All of them speak Tamil; play a line in two and trust your ear.
  • Tamil words are long because suffixes join on ("சொல்லிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்"). Captions therefore hold fewer words per line. Boxed and Bold handle this well; Bounce shows one word at a time, which can make a very long word fill the screen.
  • Prefer the respectful "நீங்க / நீங்கள்" when talking to viewers. "நீ" belongs in dialogue between characters.
  • Write English loanwords in Tamil script the way people say them (லஞ்ச் பாக்ஸ், மொபைல்). Latin letters inside a Tamil sentence can make the voice switch accent mid-line.
  • Grantha letters (ஜ, ஷ, ஸ, ஹ) are fine for loanwords if your audience uses them; some purist channels avoid them. Be consistent within a video.
  • Styles described as uppercase do nothing to Tamil script, which has no capital letters. Choose a caption style for size, box and placement.

Your first Tamil video, step by step

  1. 1

    Choose Tamil as the language

Set the language to Tamil before generating. Your idea can be typed in Tamil, Tanglish or English; the script comes back in Tamil script.

  2. 2

State the register in the idea

Add "casual spoken Tamil" or "simple formal Tamil" to your idea, or paste your own script already written in the register you want.

  3. 3

    Read it aloud once

Any line that trips you will trip the voice. Split long sentences and replace bookish words with everyday ones.

  4. 4

    Pick voice, style and captions

Voice by mood, visual style by subject (Documentary for food and places, 3D render or Watercolor for kids, Cinematic for drama), Boxed captions for long Tamil words.

  5. 5

    Publish where your viewers are

For viewers in India, publish to YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels from the app; TikTok is not available in India. For Sri Lankan, Malaysian and Singaporean audiences, TikTok is an option too.

  6. 6

    Title in Tamil and Tanglish

For example "Lemon Rice in 30 seconds | எலுமிச்சை சாதம்". Many viewers search in Roman letters even when they watch in Tamil.

FAQ

Questions people ask next

Is there a free Tamil AI video generator?

Veedio lets anyone with an account and no card make a 4-second AI preview of an idea; it is watermarked and not downloadable. Full Tamil videos need a paid plan, from Starter at $19/mo, with a 7-day money-back guarantee on the first payment.

Can the voice read Sri Lankan Tamil?

The voice reads the Tamil you write. If you write Sri Lankan vocabulary and phrasing, that is what it says. Its accent is the voice's own, so ask a Sri Lankan listener to check a preview if that audience matters to you.

Can captions be in Tanglish?

Captions show the narration as written, so Tamil-script narration gives Tamil-script captions. Tanglish is better used in the title, description and hashtags, where people search in Roman letters.

Does Veedio support Telugu, Malayalam or Kannada?

No. Of the Indian languages, only Hindi and Tamil are in Veedio's 29-language catalog. Please don't expect usable narration in the others.

Can I clone my own voice for Tamil videos?

Yes, cloning your own voice is a Pro and Studio feature, and the clone can narrate your Tamil scripts. You cannot clone anyone else's voice.

Which register should a kids' channel use?

A light formal Tamil with simple words is the usual choice for children's stories: it is clear and neutral across regions. Spoken Tamil suits funny cartoons and older kids. Pick one per channel and keep it.
