Top 240 px, bottom 660 px, 120 px each side, plus the button column just inside the right margin (180 px wide from 840 px down, so 300 px clear on the right there). From TikTok's In-Feed ad safe-zone file, scaled from its 720x1280 template.

Shaded red: covered by buttons, captions or tabs. Approximate and conservative; the apps move things between versions.

Where each app covers your video

Every short-form app draws its own interface on top of your video: tabs and a search icon along the top, a column of like, comment and share buttons down the right, and the username, caption and sound along the bottom. Anything you place there — a subtitle, a price, a face, a call to action — is partly hidden for every viewer.

On a 1080x1920 frame. These come from the guidance each platform publishes for 9:16 ads; none publishes one for ordinary posts, and layouts shift between app versions, so treat them as approximate and conservative.

How to use the overlay

Download the PNG for the platform you are posting to, import it into CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Canva, and put it on the top track across the whole timeline. Because it is exactly 1080x1920, it lines up with a standard vertical project without scaling. Move your titles and captions until they sit inside the dashed box, then hide or delete the overlay track before you export — otherwise the red shading ships with the video.

Posting one edit to all three apps? Use “All three”: it is the overlap of the three safe areas, so anything inside it is clear everywhere.

FAQ

Safe zone questions

What is the TikTok safe zone?

It is the part of a 9:16 video that TikTok's own interface does not cover. The username and caption sit along the bottom, the like, comment, share and profile buttons run down the right, and the top carries the Following / For You tabs. Text, faces or a logo placed in those areas get hidden behind them. The template shades those areas so you can keep anything important out of them.

Are these the official numbers?

They come from the platforms' own published material, but for ads: TikTok's In-Feed ad safe-zone file, Meta's Reels ad guidance and Google's vertical video-ad overlay. None of the three publishes a safe zone for ordinary posts, and the apps change their layout between versions and devices, so treat the shading as a conservative guide rather than an exact boundary. Each source is linked at the bottom of this page.

What size is the downloaded overlay?

1080 x 1920 pixels, PNG, with a transparent safe area and a translucent shaded border. That is the standard 9:16 frame, so it lines up when you drop it on a track above your footage in CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Canva. Hide or delete the overlay track before you export.

Is my image or video uploaded anywhere?

No. The preview and the PNG are drawn by your browser. A file you drop on the preview is read locally and never leaves your device; reload the page and it is gone.

Which safe zone should I use if I post the same video everywhere?

Pick “All three”. It shades everything any of the three platforms covers, so whatever sits in the clear area is visible on TikTok, Reels and Shorts alike. It is the most cramped of the four, which is the cost of one edit for three apps.

Why is the bottom band so tall?

Because a long caption pushes the username and text block up the screen, and the published guidance allows for that. On a short caption the covered area is smaller. If your captions are short you can let text sit a little lower, but check it in the app before posting.

Do I need to sign up?

No. The template, the preview and the download all work without an account. Veedio's video tools are separate and are linked below if you want to make the video itself.

Where the numbers come from

Read on October 21, 2026. Meta's percentages are rounded to the nearest pixel; Google's margins were measured from its own overlay PNG; TikTok's were scaled from its 720x1280 ad template, with the button-column width as measured by Socialync. The apps change, so check the result in the app before you post.
