Toolbox Talk Topic Generator

Ten toolbox talk topics for your trade, your site and this stage of the job, each with the controls to cover — free with an account.

  • 01Describe the job. The trade, the site and what the crew is doing this week — excavation, first fix, working at height.
  • 02Ten topics with controls. Each topic comes with the controls the talk should cover, in the order a worker would use them.
  • 03Make one a video. Hand this week’s to the toolbox talk video generator and send it to the crew’s phones.

Name the trade, the site and what the crew is doing now. The topics follow the work.

01

Topics that follow the work

A list of a hundred toolbox talk topics is easy to find and hard to use, because most of it does not apply to what your crew is doing this week. The talk that lands is the one about the job in front of them: the trench they are about to dig, the ceiling grid they are about to hang, the scaffold they are about to climb.

So this asks what the trade is and what stage the job is at, and suggests topics for that work — each one a specific task or hazard rather than a heading, with the controls the talk should cover in the order a worker would actually use them.

02

Your controls and your sign-off

It does not know your risk assessment, your method statement or the rules where you work, and it is told never to invent a regulation, a figure or an incident, or to cite a standard by number. The controls it lists are a starting point for the talk, not a substitute for the ones your site has signed off.

When you turn a topic into a video, type your site’s own controls and the talk is built around them, and whoever owns health and safety reads the script before it renders. The video does not record attendance, so keep your sign-in sheet.

Questions

Is it really free?

With a free account and no card, yes. Each run is one language-model call, which costs us a fraction of a cent. Turning a result into a narrated video is the step that spends credits.

Does it work for UK, Irish and Australian sites?

The topics do: they come from the work you describe, and they cite no regulations. When you make one into a video, know this first: The 5 voices are American English. There is no British, Irish or Australian voice, and we would rather say so here than after you have paid.

Can I get the topics in Spanish?

Ask for Spanish in the box and the topics come back in Spanish. The video generator can narrate and caption the talk in Spanish too.

Will it cite OSHA or HSE rules?

No. It is told not to cite a regulation or a standard by number and never to invent one. Add the rule your site follows when you make the video.

Is there a limit?

Up to a dozen runs an hour per account, which is plenty for planning a month and not enough to be worth scraping.

What happens when I press “Make this a video”?

The topic goes to the toolbox talk video generator’s composer, with its voice, look and brief already set. You read the script before anything is rendered, and rendering is the step that spends credits.
